February 2011

Peggy and Roger

Wow! It's hard to believe another month has gone by. I remember when I was a kid I thought time moved by so slowly but now....there just needs to be more time in the day.
I had someone come to us and ask to rent our house. What a blessing that has been. They move in the 15th of March which means we have been under a lot of pressure to get the house ready to rent. The inside is almost finished and should be ready for them.
Alexis finished up the basketball season undefeated and ready to rodeo and get her dairy calf ready for fair.
Roger had the chance to go on a snowmobile trip with a bunch of guys from work. He had a blast and is ready to go again....even though he was extremely sore the next couple of days. He said it was definitely worth the pain.
That's about it for February. Eat, work, sleep and do it again. Looking forward to the sunshine that has been peaking through. Definitely time for some good horse back riding.
Hope March treats you well!
Love, The Wheelers

Mom and Dad
It seems we have spent this month going to one doctor or another. But wait! We did take a few days to go visit our Utah families. It was nice to get away and to do some bonding with grandkids. Unfortunately, traveling is not an easy thing for Mom.
We were happy to be a part of Alexis’ baptism and are so pleased for her decision to become a member of the Church.
It is great to have Mark and Rachel’s family nearby. Every Saturday we get to watch Alex play basketball. He has really improved and it is fun to watch him progress. Attending the piano recital for Emily, Alex, and Lauren was delightful. They are all doing so well. With all the talent in our family maybe a talent show would be fun for the reunion.
The end of the month was a bit of a downer with Dad in the hospital for 3 days; so now he is recuperating and doing much better.
We are looking forward to springtime and are excited to see you all soon.
Love, Mom and Dad

Becky and Christian

February started with Caitlin turning 2. I really can't believe she is a talking, running, jumping, tantrum throwing 2 year old. But she is. She will tell you she is 15 though. She had a great birthday and was all excited for cake and presents. Mom and Dad came down that weekend and brought Cait a beautiful dollhouse they had made. She loves it. Actually so do the boys but they won't admit it. Brenten just says he is helping Cait clean up her toys because he is a nice brother.

Our first indoor soccer season came to an end. I can't say we had a winning season but we are all improving and learning to play together. Our next season starts in March and we are hoping to have a few more wins. Because lets face it, winning is ALWAYS more fun.

The boys are doing great. Landon is excited to start school in the fall. He has already had his kindergarten well check. He is just a little guy he is in the 7th percentile in both height and weight. Maybe he will get a growth spurt one of these days.

I hope you all have a great month.

January 2011

Brian and Jessica

After a very busy holiday season, Brian and I enjoyed some downtime this month. We’ve taken advantage of our college football free Saturdays and spent some time at the beach and taking some nice hikes. We also headed to Lake Tahoe last weekend. It was gorgeous as usual, but the weekend went by too quickly if you ask me. They hadn’t had snow for several weeks, so our plans to try cross country skiing were foiled. But we still got some nice pictures! Other than that, we’ve been doing the usual – work work work! I also had an orthodontic disaster come to a head this month, which I’m now trying to correct by transferring care to someone else. At least I have a little break from the braces and appliances that I’ve been dealing with for the last couple of month. Bring on the burgers and caramel apples. Other than that, Brian has been enjoying the BYU men’s basketball success (my Badgers aren’t doing so bad themselves…not to mention my PACKERS!) and things are overall really good!

Steve and Sharon

Nothing happened in January. It was cold and snowy....minus 11!!!

Basketball has continued on at full tilt. I tossed a high school coach for the first time in 20 years. I have been to Colorado Springs, Durango, Grand Junction, and all over the Western slope. In the next few weeks the playoffs will begin with the state tournament not far behind. This is my 24th year of officiating and I never stopped learning.

Oh yeah, I had a birthday this month, too. I feel so much better now.

Sharon and Brittany keep working on wedding and plans for this April. It is way too much detail for me to care about. Just tell me how much its going to cost me and my work is done.

Kelly has joined us back in the house again saving us a lot of extra rent. She is hoping to find a job soon so she can start to pay some of her own bills.

I was selected by the county to serve on the hospital board of trustees. That should create plenty of controversy for the next few months. A lot of people don't like it when others gain positions of authority. So while I'm trying to make a positive impact on our community, others try to break me down. I look forward to the challenge.

Rachel and Mark

January was a beautiful month with lots of sunny days and the temperatures weren't all that bad either. Some of this submission may also include the beginning of February but that's how it goes when you get old- the days just start to run into one another. Alex started basketball, again, and was really put out when his coach tried him at wing for the 2nd game. Alex couldn't quite take it and had to bring the ball up the court a few times and show the coach that he needed to be point by driving to the basket a few times. Alex is back at point now and couldn't be happier. And now for the biggest news- Mark got the basketball hoop finished and it is still standing upright in the front yard! Unlike the pergola, this 1,000lb hoop may just withstand the wind storms around here.

The end of the month surprised me with a much desired call from Idaho State University about interviewing for their PA program. I nervously drove over to Pocatello and had plenty of time to quiz myself on questions they might ask me. They gave me a couple of situational questions on what I would do and I guess they liked my answers. When they asked if I had any cultural experience I knew I was a shoe in (hopefully). The 3rd interviewer kept asking me what I would do if I got rejected and he even hypothetically rejected me twice. I wasn't too happy with him but persevered and told him I was going to go into medicine one way or another. I guess that worked because on the way home I got an email saying I was being offered a seat. It was awesome! FINALLY!!! I start August 1 and it promises to be a grueling test of commitment. Mark is really looking forward to it; not really. But I am.
The other kids are doing great. I had to cut Alyssa's long curly hair the other day after she tried to give herself the "business up front and party in the back" haircut. Now she just looks cute with hair to her shoulders but no *sniff* curls. She is almost potty trained or so I think as she runs to the bathroom holding herself. One more thing then I will pass the batton...Last night for family prayer, I asked Lauren to pray. She started her prayer with the typicall bless this and that but then put us all in stitches when she says completely unprompted "Please bless the Steelers to get better so they can win next year." We hadn't even been talking about the Steelers that day but their loss was still on her mind probably because it is her dad's favorite team and she knew he was upset about the loss. So, with the faith of a 7 year old, I expect great things from the Steelers next year. Have a good one.
Amy and Will

Wow, I haven't sent anything into the newsletter in forever. Sorry for the absence. Busy is an understatement at our house lately. Will continues to plug away at his shop and decided to move shops. We are super excited about that because the new shop has a big office area that we are going to set up to be a little more customer and family friendly. We are going to take over one of our couches and TV in there so when the kids go to the shop they aren't picking up all the dangerous stuff and climbing all over the four wheelers and motorcycles. The new shop is also right on a main road. Excellent exposure! We are excited to see how this will improve business.

Will has been also working at Home Depot for some extra change. Even though he has been running like crazy and rarely has time to be home, he seems to like Home Depot for the most part. There are some awesome people there who just all happen to have four wheelers and motorcycles. They go four wheeling together and do fun things, so hopefully one of these times Will will have time to go.

I continue to work on my Master's degree in health administration at night after the kids are in bed, while I work at the hospital for part of the day and enjoy my children the rest of the time.

Kaleb is growing like crazy. He is so smart. He is becoming more of a "big kid" in that he is understanding feeling a lot more. That makes me sad he says, or does that make you happy mom, he says. He has discovered how fun the computer can be and also that XBox games can be fun, especially if it involves anything with a motor. Wonder where he gets that from? Kaleb tries to be the mom so often around here, trying to decipline the twins. The funny thing is Kimberly listens to him, or she puts herself in the corner when she is in trouble. She cracks me up.

Kimberly is doing great. Even though she seems to always have a snotty nose, I blame that on her thumb sucking, she has been growing and learning a ton. She has learned a ton of words already and loves babydolls. She is such a girl. The other day I tried to put pants on her and she threw a fit because she wanted to wear a dress. Or if you touch her shoes she freaks out. Exhausting as it may be, it is kind of cute right now.

Thomas is my adventure boy. He loves to ride this little bike we have all over the place. If the door to outside is open he is out the door before I can turn around. He loves to be outside. He tries riding up onto the couch, off the curb outside, and down any hill he can find. I definitely have to watch him.

Both Kim and Tom never stays off the kitchen table. I think they like the feeling of being up high where they can see everything that is on the counter in the kitchen. They are both so cute together. One morning Thomas had been up for a couple hours and Kimberly finally woke up so I brought her out and set her on the couch and Thomas came over with a muffin I had for him and started feeding Kimberly. Then he runs over to his milk and brought it to Kimberly. They are always watching each others back, but they still have their sibling spats over sharing usually.

Even though we barely had our fair share of snow, our favorite past time now that it is getting a little warmer around here, is going to the park. The twins try to keep up with Kaleb, no matter how hard or high the toys get. It is quite the challenge to keep track of all the kids when they decide they all want to do something different. Well, that is pretty much it for our family.

Peggy and Roger

January was a fun month other then the freezing cold weather. Everyday of sunshine brought hope of the up and coming warm spring weather.
Alexis has been dancing and playing basketball. They are pretty good....they have won all of their games so far. She seems loves basketball but it's a toss up if dance is better or basketball. She had a dance performance and they won two awards. It made her dance team very happy and excited.
Mom and Dad came over for a few hours to share in Alexis baptism.
Mostly been working on our house in Middleton. Trying to get it ready for rent or to sell. One or the other. It's getting close and we are excited to be done with that project.

Mom and Dad

After all the excitement of the holidays, January seems so laid back and slow. We have done very little, except work on projects and go to the doctors. One guy at the lab said, “It’s pretty bad when you social life is going to various doctors.” And, that has been very true for us this month. Dad has been getting a few things off his “honey-do” list, but other projects are quickly taking their places. So although he is accomplishing things, the list just isn’t getting shorter. The snow is slowly leaving the mountain tops and he is really ready to start planting his garden. I keep telling him, “not yet – snow is still on the Owyhee Mts.” We have enjoyed watching Alex play basketball on Saturdays. It sure brings back some fun memories.
So that is about it for January –Happy Valentine’s to all of you,

Becky and Christian

I think this is the most people we have had write in for the newsletter in a long time. I am so excited. Thanks for making this worth it and I love to hear what everyone is up to. Jeff I miss hearing about your family. Maybe next month.

I don't really remember what we did this last month. I worked a ton. Tax season is here and people still can't figure them out. We have been so slammed. Job security right and it is months like this that I am glad to be on hourly. The company is still really good to work for which is so helpful.

Christian is doing really well at staying on top of things at home. He is even doing homework with Brenten, grocery shopping and doctors appointments. He is having a hard time as there just aren't that many jobs out there right now. It's okay I know there is a plan for us and we will just keep working hard until something comes along and works out.

Christian and I are playing indoor soccer and it has been so fun. I am really working on my skills. Christian is still good and loves anytime he can get on the field. It is weird but it feels really good to run until you think you are going to throw up and then run some more. I can't say we are having a winning season but we are improving and getting a lot of really good shots. We are hoping things will start pulling together for our second season.

The kids are great. Brenten is doing great in school and loves it and now Landon is starting to realize that Kindergarten isn't that far away. Cait is nearly 2 (well she is 2 but I will post that for next month) and she thinks she is a teenager.

December 2010

Sorry I am so late on this. But I am excited for a new year and for us all to be in the know of everyone's lives. I will be quicker to get the blog updated in January so please get me all your entries at the beginning of the month.

Steve and Sharon

December was a good month for us. Basketball kicked off around Thanksgiving as usual and I worked every weekend til just before Christmas. Business was busy as usual as deductibles were met and everyone wanted one more procedure before they have to pay up again!

We went to Disneyland for Christmas this year. Brittany and Kai met us there. The weather behaved for just three days and gave us a good vacation. We quickly figured out how to use Fast Passes and spent a lot of time on our feet. The kids were tired and had to sleep in on the second day!

Brittany and Kai got engaged for real and have set a date for sometime this Spring. They were all lovey-dovey the whole time which grosses out Kelly.

Christmas Day was spent at Universal Studios. The park was fairly empty and all the rides had short lines until about lunch time. By then, all the Asians, Indians, and Jews (oh, my) had shown up and then it was a mess the rest of the day. We left and took a drive down Hollywood Blvd and saw the stars on the sidewalk. I wouldn't let anyone out of the car....not the best part of town.

We flew back home just in time to catch the bad weather hitting in Western Colorado ready to meet a new year!

Brian and Jessica

Where has 2010 gone?! It has been a big year for us and December was one of the busier months. We started off the month celebrating my mother’s birthday in Park City and had the added bonus of seeing the Weavers while in Utah. We then headed to the Midwest for Christmas – 3 days at my dad and step-mom’s in Chicago and then 3 days at my mom and step-dad’s in Madison. I loved having Brian along for the festivities and it was great for him to get to know my (much smaller) family better…my 4 year old nephew calling him Uncle Brian was a nice perk. We were also able to stock up on Wisconsin gear while we were there (Brian now owns several items of red clothing…who would’ve ever thought that would happen?!). We wore a lot of that gear a few days later at the Rose Bowl. My sister Kristin joined us and I think we had a fabulous time…I say “I think” only because everything has been clouded by the Badger loss. Maybe I’ll be over it by the next newsletter. On our drive back from LA to the Bay area, Brian and I enjoyed reminiscing about our 2010. It will be a hard year to top, but we think we can do it in 2011.

Mom and Dad

Wow! where did 2010 disappear to? We so enjoyed the holidays and having Jeff and Mark and families here for several days. Peggy and family were able to pop in occasionally and visit. Unfortunately, the snow didn't arrive down here in the valley, but it definitely was cold. It was fun watching a new sport for us - hockey. How they endure all the banging around we'll never understand. We are looking forward to finishing and starting new projects during the rest of the winter.
Wishing you all a successful and happy 2011.

Peggy and Roger

The holidays were interesting.....I decided that because adults are so extremely judgmental and don't mind basing their judgement on gossip, adult children have alot tougher time with divorce then younger kids do. They don't seem to care who made the decision or to even talk about it....they just want to judge. Kind of a sad deal but it's life.
We got to see Mom and Dad, Jess and Brad before Christmas. After Christmas we had the pleasure of spending a little time with Jeff, Lisa and family. I always cherish the moments when we get to visit with family. We would love to be closer to everyone so we could visit more often.
Alexis turned 9 on the 31st and we had a slumber party starting on the 30th and then cake and ice cream with all the girls that spent the night and a couple other families. It was great fun. I forgot how girls act when there are that many together. Lots of fun!
Becky is putting up information on the reunion. Other then the location the flier is packed with ideas. We are definitely in need of in put from everyone. We want to make sure everyone has a total blast and enjoys the vacation.
Miss you all!

Becky and Christian

We are ready for 2011 and to see what it will bring for our family. December was a great month. I had starting getting paychecks and Christian started getting unemployment. That was a huge stress reliever. Christian has been working hard to find work however, with the holidays it seemed most opportunities were dwindling. We are hoping the new year will pick up and the jobs will become more available. I have been learning a lot about taxes at my work and business has really ramped up with the tax season fast approaching.

Brenten was excited for Christmas break this year. He was even more excited when he asked if i got a Christmas break and I was able to say yes. My work gives us 2 work days off. It was so nice to be able to hang out as a family. We had a fun time. We didn't really do anything too exciting but we did get a lot of family time in.

This year we have been very blessed with all the people who thought about us during the Christmas season. The Brenten was amazed at all the nice things people did for us. It was humbling for Christian and I and at times a little over whelming but it was an awesome learning opportunity for the boys. We were able to teach them what service is and what amazing blessings it can give ones family.

I hope you all had a great month and hope to hear from you all at the first of February.

November 2010

This is the perfect picture, except that I didn't turn it, because this is usually how Brian looked over Thanksgiving. One of the kids were usually jumping on his back.

Brian and Jessica

It’s hard to believe that it’s December already…the Christmas decorations in the apartment are a helpful reminder, but it seems crazy that 2010 is almost in the books! The beginning of the month was low key and involved lots of football (real and fantasy), work, and different projects here and there. Brian now realizes how cold the apartment can get during the winter months and we’ve been getting good use of the space heater and electric mattress pad. Now before people comment on the fact that we live in California, I just want to remind those of you who were in here in May of the baseball game. And considering it’s been getting down into the 30’s at night, the lack of insulation, single pane windows, and extremely inefficient heat makes it pretty darn cold inside… Anyway, I got Brian some slippers so at least now his feet are warm!

The highlight of the month was our trip to Boise for Thanksgiving. I had so much fun getting to know at least part of the Sawyer clan better and it was the first Thanksgiving in several years that I have spent with family. Not only was the dinner fabulous, but I loved being with the kids, seeing some snow, getting a little black Friday shopping in, and attending a very entertaining production of “White Christmas” at the Boise Little Theater (entertaining probably not in the right way…I almost had to separate Brian and Christian during the show). We also got to be super crafty – Brian working on various projects with his dad and me discovering my inner craftiness making Christmas decorations. I could try to claim mad crafting skills, but it’s not too hard to do when you have custom made wood decorations available with experts helping you to design them! It was a really great time and we look forward to visiting with more of you in the future!

Now…time to do some Christmas shopping

Mom and Dad

Having 21 seats filled on Thanksgiving made it a great day for us. We so enjoyed having much of our family here for most of the week. It seemed there was always something going on for entertainment.
After typical winter conditions it was comforting to hear that the Weavers made it home safely.
Dad has been making good use of his/Brian’s CNC. His is always on the lookout for new ideas. Mom has been excited that huge progress has been made on the deck.
We wish you all a month full of fun and laughter.
Love, Mom and Dad

Steve and Sharon

Thanksgiving came a week early for us this year. The girls came home when they had free time and one of them brought her bff Kai. We had turkey dinner, went to a dumb Harry Potter movie, and bowled. Then, as fast as they showed up, the kids were gone! We decided to go to Disneyland for Christmas vacation instead of doing the usual thing. It will be a good opportunity to soak in the 60-70 degree heat while standing in line for hours! And we will LIKE IT.....

Daddy ain't driving this time. We are going to fly down and meet Britt and Kai there. Kelly is going to be moving back home since she is taking all of her classes on-line now. She is hoping to get a job in town somewhere. We are excited to have someone else to do dishes....:)

Steve

Christian and Becky

I can't believe the year is nearly over. I don't know if I am ready for it or not. I guess it doesn't really matter since it will happen even if I am not ready. This month has been searching for work. Christian and I have been so busy trying to figure everything out. Thankfully I was blessed with a job rather quickly. And they let me start after Thanksgiving. I work for an online tax company out of Provo. It is a bit of a drive but so far they are great to work for and I can come in when it works for me so I can pretty much miss the rush hours and have some time at home too.

Christian is trying to figure out his Mr. Mom role. He has requested a moo moo for Christmas. Should I be worried? He is doing great though. He did say homework is no fun. The hard part is him feeling like he can do everything he needs to job search. He is trying hard though and we are working things out so we can both do what we need to do.

Thanksgiving was great. It started and ended with bad roads but the in between was great. We spent a whole we up in Boise. It was so awesome to see so much family. Christian was able to network a little at Boise State and see if they knew of anything and visit with some old friends. I got a lot a crafting in and had a great time hanging out with everyone. The kids of course had a great time and didn't know why we had to leave grandmas at all.

October 2010

Rachel and Mark

In a wild October where our Saturdays were dominated by one sport or another, we managed to sail through it without any injuries or missed games or practices. Alex wrapped up football with a 5-3 season. He is getting better which is good because he is not getting any bigger, yet. He promptly started basketball and has already played some games. They are 1-1 so far. Emily also started basketball and they are 2-0. She has really picked up some defensive skills this year and discovered her competitive gene. When she puts her game face on, it is really on. Lauren played soccer for her second season and was a defensive menace. It's nice to see her be a menace somewhere else other than home. She gets to sit out basketball this winter mainly because I am tired of driving kids everywhere every evening. I think I am losing my mind and the tires on my car are almost bald!
Mark and I continue to work away at things. Mark started a pergola and enjoyed it so much that he got a second chance at starting it after the wind blew it down one night. It still isn't finished but maybe some nudges in the right area can get us to finish it. We put the lawn to bed for the winter and most of the grass is in but we still have a ways to go before the yard is finished. As for me and my free time (laugh)- Mark says I am nesting but I am NOT pregnant so I don't know what he is talking about. Okay, I did paint the kitchen, the music room, the hallway, and the living room but I am not nesting- just getting things done. And by the comments I am getting, it is looking nice. You will have to come visit to see it since the kids broke my digital camera. Apparently cameras don't like being left outside overnight in the sand and wetness.
I am excited to see people for Thanksgiving and other Holidays but not looking forward to the darkness and cold. Maybe the parents and I can find lots of projects to do to get us through the dark months. See most of you soon!

Mom and Dad

Hoorah!!! Canning season is over, and it is comforting to have the pantry full. Dad has the garden all cleaned up and ready for spring.
We have enjoyed watching Lauren play soccer, Emily – basketball and Alex – football. They are all very aggressive and that makes them fun to watch. It brings back memories of watching our own kids play years ago. Where has the time gone???
We took a quick trip to St. Anthony to check out the place for next year’s reunion. We were impressed with what is offered and hope you will all be able to come. Then we turned around and drove to Dietrich to support Peggy and Roger at their wedding.
We are looking forward to seeing many of you here for Thanksgiving. If you don’t come, we hope your holiday is special and football goes your way.
Love, Mom and Dad

Peggy and Roger

Life has changed as it always does. I married Roger on the 16th of October in the small town of Dietrich, ID. We are excited for our new life and the fun and challenages it brings. We are sorry for not inviting everyone but we just wanted it to be very small wedding with the kids and invite everyone when we are sealed. None of my kids chose to come but Rogers kids were there, Mom and Dad as well as Rogers brother who lives right there in Rupert. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect fall day.
There are four new members to our family. Alexis is 8, She's ambitious most of the time, loves to barrel race, read, and really loves school. Hallie is 16, plays volleyball, a nd is a little boy crazy right now. Dustin is 17, loves to hunt, drive big machineryand be outside. Roger (cowboy Roger as Brenten and Landon call him). We all love to ride and work on the ranch. It's a lot of work and Roger has a crazy schedule (I don't get why the cows can schedule things better..haha)so I'm hoping to lighten the load at least a little at home. We do get a chance to work together. Just a great time to bond and spend time together alone and as a family.
We had dinner at Mom and Dad's with Mark, Rachel and family. It's always enjoyable to visit with them. The kids are kick and keep us all entertained.
We had a chance to see Becky, Christian and family a week ago. It was fun to watch them in their primary program. The boys did awesome. Brenten was one of the only ones that memorized his part and Landon sang is lungs out and even had a solo a couple of times!
I'm heading back to college here soon and hopefully will be able to find a job in the Twin Falls area that will help me be closer to home. Until then, I commute and stay at the Middleton house during the week and home on the weekend. I try and sneak down once during the week but that makes for a very short night.
Hope all is well with everyone!
Love,
Roger and Peggy

Becky and Christian

Can you all believe it is November already. This year has really flown by. We had a crazy month. I have to say it is definitely crazier than usual. Softball is officially over. Soccer is over for the boys which also means I am done coaching. They learned a lot and had even more fun. I liked coaching more than I thought. That being said I am glad to have my Tues, Wed, Thurs nights back and Saturday mornings. I don't know how you all do it with so many kids in different things. It makes me tired just thinking about it.

Peggy came down for a visit and we got to hang out with her Roger and Lexi. I wish they could have been here longer but we had fun. I even dragged them to a ward Halloween party. We had our primary program so a lot of stress was relieved from me once that was over.

We loved Halloween. The kids looked so cute and I feel we lucked out because the kids wanted to be stuff that we already had costumes for. Aside from a couple of bags of candy it was free. I love that. Cait loved trick or treating. She was confused after the first couple of houses and after that she raised her hands in the air and yelled "YEAH" after every candy. I think that is my favorite. I love when they get it and are so excited even for the little things.

Just before Halloween Christian got laid off. That has really thrown us for a loop. Christian knew there was a possibility but I really didn't think they would do this before Christmas. That is okay though. We are excited to see what life brings. Christian didn't love his job anyway so now is his opportunity to find something that he can like a little more and perhaps give him more opportunities for growth. So he is currently job searching and in the meantime I am also looking for work to try and get us by.

We are excited for Thanksgiving and going up to Boise.
